What Style of Training Do You Use?

We teach you how to train your dog.  It’s important that you learn the techniques. The dogs actually pick up the training very quickly… but training the owner is what takes time.  We use a balanced approach to training that gets maximum results in minimal time all while creating a happy, enthusiastic, reliable companion dog.  We’ve found that both owners and dogs learn best in a one-on-one private lesson setting.

Dogs are intelligent animals.  We strive to allow the dog to make a decision when confronted with a situation rather than trying to restrain the dog from making a decision.  If he (or she) makes the right decision, he gets food or praised (positive touch, such as a pat on the head or a pet on the chest; movement such as getting to chase a ball; and play.  If the dog makes the wrong decision, then he receives a correction and is given the chance to make the right decision again.  With the right training collar, you can adjust the motivation of the correction to exactly match your dog’s temperament, thereby communicating to the dog when he’s done something incorrect without unduly affecting the dog’s attitude toward training.

Do You Offer Private Lessons?

Yes! It is important to us that your dog will be an ambassador for Sunny Dog Training Ottawa.  When you take your dog around town, your dog will likely be better behaved and more obedient than other dogs you encounter… even those owned by most of the other professional dog trainers in Ottawa. There’s only one way to accomplish such an impressive level of training: Private lessons.

Can You Really Train Any Dog?

Yes.  In fact, the dog’s are the easy part.  Training the owner is what can be challenging. Ninety-percent of dog training is teaching the owner how to get the most from their dog. Is It True That Certain Breeds Cannot Be Trained?

No, it’s not true. We can train any dog, of any breed.  Greyhound owners think that their dogs cannot be trained to be reliable off-leash because their dogs were bred to run fast. Husky owners think that their dogs can’t be trained to walk on a loose leash because Huskies were bred to pull. The list of excuses goes on and on. Every dog breed has enthusiasts who make up excuses for why their dogs aren’t trained.  It’s all bunk.  Nonsense.  We can train any dog of any breed.

Can I Take My Dog To Parties, To Work, Or To An Outdoor Cafe During Training?

Yes! In fact, we encourage it.  Our training programs are designed around being able to incorporate your dog into your active lifestyle.
